Test your design in both light and dark appearances. See how your interface looks in both appearances, and adjust your designs as needed to accommodate each one. You can test this by setting your system appearance to light, then running an app from within Xcode and pressing Menu Debug View Debugging Appearance Dark. The app will be in dark mode but the method in the accepted answer will claim it is not. This gives the correct result.
